TRIMLEY RED DEVIL FIRST XI & RESERVES END OF A SEASON REPORT
With just 3 defeats and two of them in cup matches it proved to be a magnificent season for the 1st team which saw them finish in runners up spot and gain promotion to the SIL Premier Division for the first time in the clubs History.
Joint managers Matt Egelton and Steve Ray kept a solid squad together very strong at the back and plenty of Goals at the other end with David Gibson in only his second season back after a horrendous injury notching 32 out of the 100 scored.
The team and also recorded a double over the team that pipped them to the title Claydon and we will see them again next season.
Of course victory in the County Junior Cup Final at Portman Road in front of a large following of Trimley Supporters would have been the icing on the cake but it was not to be as we lost out in a entertaining 2nd half I don’t think anyone who saw the match can explain how the Devils did not come out victors on the night but that’s Football and we send our congratulations AFC Kesgrave.
Not to be outdone the Reserves under the management of Chris Ray and Jamie Greening also had a great season finishing 3rd in Intermediate B and gaining promotion to the top tier of SIL reserve Football.
The team scored 92 Goals and also reached the Final of the League’s Travel Tours Cup losing by the only goal of the match to a very good Framlingham Reserves but put in a very creditable performance.
Highlights of the season where wins against higher league opposition AFC Hoxne and Coplestonians.
So a great season all round won 47 and drew 8 out of 66 games
But Promotions bring new mountains to climb harder opposition and improvements to the ground and the extra costs that go with them.
But that’s for the future let’s just enjoy last season for a week or two.
